Many of us have had, or may have, steroid shots to prepare for baby's early arrival. We're gonna tackle some common questions about steroids here!
What are steroid shots?
Corticosteroid therapy ("steroid shots") is a very common antenatal therapy offered when there is risk of a preterm birth. The more widely used corticosteroids are betamethasone and dexamethasone. They can help speed up organ maturation in the fetus, and prevent some common complications of early birth, like respiratory distress syndrome. They also reduce the risk of death for preterm babies.
